How to Build Real Confidence in Kids Ages 6–12
Telling a kid "you're amazing" doesn't build confidence. Earned wins do. Confidence comes from doing a hard thing in front of people and surviving it. Here's how we build it on the beach — and how you can reinforce it at home.
1. Let them do the hard thing first, cheer second
Every P's & Q's Day, each kid does a solo skill demo in front of the squad and gets a real cheer. The point isn't the skill — it's standing up and being seen.
2. Eye contact and a firm handshake
We rep eye contact and handshakes until they're automatic. It's a tiny skill that changes how a kid carries themselves.
3. Name the win out loud
At the end of the day, every kid names one thing they did well. Saying it out loud makes it real.
4. Stack small reps
Confidence is a muscle. The belt system gives kids a visible ladder — every day they come back, they're climbing toward the next band.
5. Push with warmth, never shame
We are not a military bootcamp. Coaches push kids the way a great coach pushes a team they believe in — high standards, real warmth.
